Arisela Hernandez joined the ECHS team in 2013 as the College Prep Teacher. In 2014 she transitioned to be the 11th grade English teacher. Arisela is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz and holds a B.A. degree in Language Studies. She earned an M.A. in Teaching Secondary English Education from Brown University.
Arisela grew up in Sacramento, California before moving to Santa Cruz to attend U.C. Santa Cruz as a first-generation college student. There, she was affiliated with social justice-driven Oakes College, which sparked her involvement in campus organizations like Residents Life, Intramural Basketball, Queer Fashion Show, Open Source Hip Hop Club, and Learning Support Services. Through her diverse coursework, she began thinking deeply about the role that schools and young people can play in the struggle for justice.
Arisela is excited to join the ECHS family and is intrigued by the school’s commitment to preparing students to be quality stewards for their communities and the world. She was drawn to ECHS because of its supportive leadership team and dynamic faculty.
