Join us as our students present, advocate, debate and share their perspectives on:

  • HOW CAN WE PERSUADE A COMMUNITY TO TRANSFORM A SPACE? The surrounding cities are riddled with vacant lots (abandoned gas stations, empty parking lots). Our 9th graders are working towards changing that. This year, students have located vacant lots/buildings in surrounding cities and have developed plans to transform them. Students will prepare professional presentations containing resistance education, design theory, community asset maps using data, institutional investing, statistical analysis and green design; come and see how our  9th graders will use all of those domains in persuading respective cities to implement their creative solutions for a specified vacant lot.
  • WHAT DOES LOS ANGELES NEED TO BE MORE EQUITABLE, ACCESSIBLE AND SUSTAINABLE? With a constant influx of human migration, mega drought, thousands of miles of freeways, and the resulting impact on the ecosystem, it can be easy to dismiss Los Angeles’ future as a foregone conclusion.  See how  sophomores use LA’s past and present to consider solutions needed in order for Los Angeles to thrive.
  • HOW DO NATURAL DISASTERS IMPACT SOCIETY? Humans are subject to natural forces. How do societies respond to natural disasters and plan for the existing natural hazards such as earthquakes, hurricanes, tsunamis, floods, and volcanoes? Social responses to natural disasters reveal our relationship to nature and the vulnerability of populations in society. Junior students will present information on how societies are impacted by natural disasters through student created videos.
  • HOW CAN WE I USE MY VOICE TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF EDUCATION AT ECHS? In order to better understand the political process around creating change in their community, seniors will start by creating policy change within their school. would improve the quality of education at ECHS and make the school a better place for learning. They will present their data driven research and participation in a variety of civic actions to inform the community about the progress they have made towards bettering their school.
