Environmental Art teacher at ECS since 2008, Mike Gower has brought much needed creativity and energy to the school. Since his arrival the schools aesthetics have been transformed from drab to fab.
Mr. Gower is very passionate about the things he loves, Art, Fishing and family, in that order. When he is not making or teaching art you’ll find him near the water fishing with his wife and kids. His love of the ocean has a huge influence in his artistic focus. Marine conservation, preservation, and appreciation are ever present in his work.
Mr. Gower wanted to be an art teacher from a young age. He has have been selling his artwork since preschool. His work can be found in schools, doctor’s offices, art galleries and art stores all across California. He has owned two clothing companies related to fishing and extreme sports. Mr. Gower’s passion is ever growing and his desire to grow as an artist, teacher, father, and husband can never be quenched.
Besides being an All League football player and All CIF wrestler in high school, Mr. Gower also carried a 4.0 all the way thru college. He received the Artist of the year awards in high school and college. He has been featured in several local newspapers for murals he has donated to the city of Torrance and Long Beach. If you keep an eye open you may just catch a glimpse of him on T.V. doing an interview for a PBS special called Growing Greener Schools.
